St.Mark's Head Start Profile

 

St. Mark’s Family Services Council sponsors two Head Start Centers in Brooklyn. Both centers are licensed by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Bureau of Day Care.


St. Mark’s Head Start located in Flatbush is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (N.A.E.Y.C.)
Bishop Sexton Head Start is located in Bedford Stuyvesant area of Brooklyn

Both sites offer year round free pre-school education for low income 3 and 4 year old children including children with special needs.  Both sites have computers in the classrooms and outdoor playgrounds.

Breakfast, lunch and snack are served.  Children are provided with their own toothbrush to brush their teeth each day.

The St. Mark’s site employs multi-lingual staff, in order to better serve the large immigrant population.

St. Mark's Family Services Council employs a total of 51 full-time employees on both sites. 


Before hire staff must be:

  • Screened by the New York State Registry on Child Abuse and Neglect 

  • Fingerprinted by the Department Of Investigation

  • Submit three verifiable written references

  • Submit a medical indicating that they are free of any contagious diseases and are fit to work

  • Submit proof that they are able to legally work in the United States

  • Able to speak, read and write English
